What is resin infusion? Advantages of resin infusion |
What is resin
infusion? Resin Infusion is a relatively new technique in composite construction. A vacuum bag is constructed over the laminate, and a vacuum is pulled. Resin enters the laminate through feeder pipes and a runner system, and impregnates the glass, aramide or carbon fibers. Results are a high quality composite laminate, with high fiber/resin ratio, and perfect adhesion to core materials. Film infusion is resin infusion under a vacuum film of some sort. Advantages are a low starting cost, flexibility in the infusion strategy, and the ability to monitor exactly what is happening. This is exactly the type of infusion that we are discussing here. To be able to succesfully infuse a large object, like a boat hull, one need to learn about different types of resins (epoxy, polyester), glass fibers which allow a certain amount of resin flow, and about the resin infusion consumables, needed to succesfully perform an infusion. Advantages of resin infusion The advantages of resin infusion are many. Every user has his own good reasons to use resin infusion. Among those reasons are:
